Under terms of the pact, Smoove will star in a recurring role on the studio's Fox laffer " 'Til Death." At the same time, Sony will develop TV projects for him, and plans to give Smoove an Internet presence (on sites including the conglom's Crackle platform).
On " 'Til Death," Smoove will play opposite stars Brad Garrett and Joely Fisher. When Garrett's character signs up to be a Big Brother volunteer, he's assigned to the grown-up Smoove -- who, through a computer glitch, is still on the org's rolls. Smoove and Garrett decide to hang out and be pals.
Smoove is signed up to appear in three episodes, with a possibility of more. He'll start appearing once new, post-strike segs start airing this spring.
Sony Pictures TV casting exec Dawn Steinberg said the studio pursued Smoove after his star-turning appearance on "Curb" as Leon, the street-talking guest from New Orleans who served as both a foil and as support to David's character.
Smoove's credits include "Carpoolers," "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Cedric the Entertainer Presents." He was also a writer on "Saturday Night Live," and occasionally showed up in skits.
