Directed by Joel Conroy, the movie traces the origins of modern Hawaiian and Californian surfing back to Ireland, and showcases the world-class surfing scene of Ireland’s North-west coast.
“Wave Riders” edged out “Dambe — The Mali Project” for the award, with “Lars and the Real Girl” in third place,” “The Orphanage” in fourth, and “In Bruges” and “There Will Be Blood” tied for fifth.
The broader, commercially focused Just for Laughs will spin off a smaller, two-day biz-oriented confab this year.
