Africa hires its own 'Apprentice'

Reality show gets Nigerian makeover

 JOHANNESBURG -- "The Apprentice" arrived in Africa Feb. 26 with simultaneous launches in five countries.

"The Apprentice Africa" is produced by Nigerian TV production company Storm Vision in conjunction with the Executive Group, with financial backing from Nigeria's Bank PHB for broadcast in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The Donald Trump of the African version of the Mark Burnett reality TV concept is Nigeria's "father of advertising" Biodun Shobanjo, chairman and founder of marketing and communications group Troyka Holdings.

The nine men and nine women contestants were drawn from Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Guinea, Cameroon, Tanzania and Kenya after auditions were held across Africa.

The show airs on Nigeria's Silverbird Television and National Television Authority, on TV 3 in Ghana, KTN in Kenya, WBS in Uganda and ITV in Tanzania.
