Book I'm reading:
"God Is Not Great" by Christopher Hitchens and "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand (one of those great classics that I somehow never read before).

Total number of books I own:
A lot

Three books that mean a lot to me:
"Geek Love" by Katherine Dunn
"The Guide to Getting it On!" by Paul Joannides and Daerick Gross

Last film I saw: "There Will Be Blood," directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. My favorite movie of 2007. I love that the first ten minutes of it are completely free of dialogue and that you already are fully invested in Daniel Day Lewis' character before he opens his mouth to speak.

Three films that mean a lot to me:
"American Beauty," directed by Sam Mendes
"The End of the Affair," directed by Neil Jordan
"Monty Python's Life of Brian," directed by Terry Jones

Who do you think is the best actor in Hollywood at the moment? (male or female)
Javier Bardem; Philip Seymour Hoffman; Daniel Day-Lewis; Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton.

Who do you think was the brightest star of the silver screen?
Bette Davis

If you could play any real-life person in a movie, who would it be and why?
Bette Davis; because she lived on her own terms; because she was a study in opposites; because she loved and loathed as passionately as she was loved and loathed.

Who do you look to for inspiration?
Too many people to name

Song currently playing in my iPod:
"It Don't Matter Now" and"Forget About It" by Alison Krauss

Three songs that mean a lot to me:
"She's Always a Woman,"Billy Joel
"I Don't Know Why," Shawn Colvin
"Love's Divine," Seal

Concert that changed your life:
Scissor Sisters at the Brixton Academy in London, Halloween 2004

Guilty pleasures:
* Film: Either the Mr. Bean movie; "St. Elmo's Fire" or "Flashdance"
* Web sites: Yahoo backgammon. Although I made a New Year's resolution a few years ago to leave Yahoo backgammon alone because it was commandeering my life, so I haven't touched it for a while.
* YouTube video: Unk's "Walk it Out" perfectly synched to a Gwen Verdon dance from the Lawrence Welk show from the early '60s. It looks perfectly innocuous and goofy when you watch the original, which was set to a silly tune entitled "Mexican Breakfast"; and downright slutty when they're dancing to "Walk it Out."

Best hangover remedy?
Emergen-C, Advil and a huge breakfast at Toast

What's the biggest upside of the Internet and what is its biggest downside?
Biggest upside: MySpace, because now I have a site where people can listen to my music (www.myspace.com/aliciawittmusic. Sorry, had to get that in there!).
Downside: I can't stop looking at everyone else's profiles and I'm going to have to make a New Year's resolution to stop because it's threatening to commandeer my life.

What advice would you give to someone trying to break into your profession?
Know that you can only do this if this is what you want more than anything else in the world; and if it is, know that the rejections are what make you strong enough to keep going.

Do you have a dream project?:
I definitely have got to be Sally Bowles at some point.

What helps you get out of bed in the morning?:
My doggies, Jake and Maggie. They always somehow know the instant my eyelids start to open and they're both on the bed in a second, so excited to see me again.

Who was your celebrity crush growing up?
Mary Tyler Moore. I wrote her a love letter when I was 4 and told her I wanted to marry her.

Are there any activities you do to make you feel un-famous?
I go to obscure car washes in the San Fernando Valley just so I can play obscure '80s video games while my car's being washed.

Five people who I'd like to see answer this survey:
Bette Davis, Sidney Lumet, Barack Obama; Al Pacino; Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
