Actor Dennis Letts dies at 73

Made Broadway debut in 'Osage County'

Actor Dennis Letts died of lung cancer Feb. 22 in Tulsa, Okla. He was 73.

Letts made his Broadway debut in October in "August: Osage County," the hit play written by his son Tracy. He was diagnosed with cancer in September 2007, after the play's Chicago premiere and just before the show transferred to New York. Letts departed "August" a few weeks before his death.

Born in Oklahoma City, Letts began acting at age 50, building credits including "Walker, Texas Ranger" and "Cast Away." Before that, he taught writing and literature at colleges and universities including Southeastern Oklahoma State.

He is survived by his wife, his brother and three sons.
