At a press conference Thursday, multihyphenate Eric Tsang was unveiled as the fest's filmmaker in focus, with an eight-pic retrospective emphasizing his early acting career and premiering the "Winds of September" trilogy he recently produced.
Event, which runs March 17 to April 6, expects to welcome marquee arthouse names including Russian helmer Sergei Bodrov, whose Oscar- nominated "Mongol" will make its Asian premiere at the Hong Kong fest; British director Peter Greenaway, who accompanies "Nightwatching," and the Hong Kong-born, Hollywood-based Wayne Wang, with "A Thousand Years of Good Prayers" and its companion piece, "The Princess of Nebraska," will both be showcased at the fest.
Fest announced Wednesday that Japanese pic "Kabei -- Our Mother" and Taiwanese magical realist tale "Soul of a Demon," by Chang Tso-chi, share the opening-night bill.
