Murdoch is chairman and CEO of indie TV group Shine, and Egan is co-founder of Potboiler Prods., producing Fernando Meirelles’ “Blindness.” They replace producers Marc Samuelson and Alison Owen, whose terms ended.
The U.K. Film Council is the publicly funded agency responsible for developing the business and culture of cinema in Blighty. The appointments were made by minister for culture Margaret Hodge.
Murdoch’s Shine, one of the U.K.’s largest TV producers, recently acquired Reveille, whose skeins include “Ugly Betty.” Egan, who formed Potboiler in 2000 with Simon Channing Williams, has produced or exec produced Mike Leigh’s “Happy-Go-Lucky,” which won the actress prize at Berlin and Meirelles’ “The Constant Gardener.”
