Designer Colleen Atwood's dark spin on Victorian English dress in "Sweeney Todd" won the period film kudos, while Ruth Myers' whimsical "Golden Compass" pieces drew the fantasy film nod. Julie Weiss' exaggerated creations earned "Glory" the award for contemporary film.
"Before anything, I just have to say God, I love this job," said multiple award winner Ruth Myers.
Eduardo Castro won in the contemporary television category for colorful skein "Ugly Betty." Robert Blackman nabbed the period and fantasy nod for new series "Pushing Daisies," while "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" designer Mario Davignon drew the award in the TV movie or miniseries field.
The year's special honorees included Paula Wagner, who received the President's Award; James Mangold and Cathy Konrad, the director-producer award; and Myers and Ray Aghayan with the film and television career achievement awards, respectively.
"Any performances that I've been proud of in my films have also been the result of the really unique collaboration between the costume designer, not only with the clothes, but what is going on beneath them and on top of them," Mangold said.
Special posthumous award also went to Costume Designers Hall of Fame inductee Marit Allen for her life's work as a designer.
Award for costume design in a commercial went to Deborah Ferguson for Capitol One's "Princess Kiss" ad.
