Bavaria's Schaumann joins Premiere

Executive will head acquisitions

By ED MEZA

BERLIN — Former Bavaria Film Intl. topper Thorsten Schaumann is ankling his post at the world sales company and moving to pay TV platform Premiere, where he will handle program acquisitions.

Schaumann’s current co-topper Thorsten Ritter will continue to manage Bavaria Film Intl. on his own, with support from long-time colleagues Stefanie Zeitler, who will be promoted to head of sales, and Sebastian Kiesmueller, who moves up to head of marketing at the division, the theatrical sales arm of Bavaria Media.

Bavaria will continue its strategy of further internationalizing its portfolio, while remaining a main world distrib for German filmmakers.

“Thorsten will be missed. In addition to his experience in overseeing sales, he also had a good instinct in acquisitions,” Ritter said. “My team and I will continue on our way and set some new priorities at the same time.

“We depend on our identification with the films and the filmmakers, and on being regarded as loyal and entirely committed partners. So although we may have to adapt our activities to the economic requirements of the market, we will still invest all our passion into each and every film.”

One of Bavaria Film Intl.’s founding team members, Schaumann has been at the division since 1997, and currently oversees sales and, along with Ritter, acquisitions.

Schaumann’s appointment at Premiere follows efforts by the feevee service to boost scripted fare.
