Sher joined ICM's motion picture department in 2000, repping writers, directors and actors. His clients are expected to remain at the agency.
Clients joining Sher at Category 5 include Marc Klein ("A Good Year," "Serendipity"), Kevin Bisch ("Hitch"), Farhad Safinia ("Apocalypto"), Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger ("Space Invader"), Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton ("Pierre, Pierre"), Michael Meredith ("Open Road") and multihyphenate T.I. ("American Gangster," "ATL").
Sher and ICM characterized the parting as amicable.
"We support Brian in his new venture and look forward to working with him in this role," said Nicole Clemens, co-head of ICM's motion picture literary department.
Sher has spent nearly a decade as an agent, beginning his career as a trainee in the mailroom at the William Morris Agency in 1996. He joined then-literary agency Broder Kurland Webb Uffner as an agent in 1998.
