News Corp. adds Hurd to board

Hewlitt-Packard CEO succeeds Paige

News Corp. has appointed Mark Hurd, chairman-CEO of the Hewlitt-Packard Co., to the board of directors, succeeding Dr. Rod Paige, who has resigned.

In announcing Hurd's appointment, News Corp.'s Rupert Murdoch said, "Mark has had great success, in sharpening HP's strategic focus, resulting in increased growth and profitability for what is one of the world's leading technology companies."

Murdoch went on to say that Hurd's "vast operational experience in the technology sector will be a valuable asset" to News Corp.'s board.

Paige, a former U.S. secretary of education, has served on the board since 2006 and will remain with News Corp. as a consultant on educational matters.

Hurd has served as chief exec of HP since September 2006. Before that, he spent 25 years at NCR, rising through the ranks to become president and CEO.
