Miramax gets 'Happy-Go-Lucky'

Co. will distribute Leigh's film in North America

Miramax has taken North American rights for Brit helmer Mike Leigh's Berlin competish entry "Happy-Go-Lucky." Deal was in the mid-six-figures range. Sales were handled by Summit Entertainment.

"We are absolutely delighted with the reaction here, as (with a Mike Leigh film) nobody actually know what we've got until they see it," Summit Intl. chief David Garrett said.

Miramax chief Daniel Battsek has a longstanding relationship with Leigh.

Momentum, which also distributed Leigh's previous pic, Venice Golden Lion winner "Vera Drake," has acquired U.K. rights.

MK2 in France, Tobis in Germany, Mikado in Italy, Sponge in Korea, Rialto in Australia and New Zealand, Dea Planeta in Spain, West Video in C.I.S., RCB in Benelux and Sandre Metronome in Scandinavia all acquired the film.

Pic was financed by Ingenious Media, U.K. Film Council and Film4.
