'Rita Rudner' giggles with PBS

Standup's comedy special to air in June

PBS and the phrase "standup comedy special" seldom appear in the same sentence.

But the pubcaster said Monday that "Rita Rudner: Live From Las Vegas" is slated to become the first comedy special it has ever aired. The comic's 2,000th and 2,001st shows, to be performed at Harrah's on Feb. 22, will be recorded and turned into a special and DVD. The spec will air in June.

Rudner, whose lengthy career has included cable and syndie shows, Broadway, film producing and fiction and nonfiction books, has been a steady Vegas draw since 2000. MGM opened a dedicated, 450-seat theater for her act that year at the New York, New York casino.
