IFC acquires rights to 'Capacity'

Film stars Broderick, Alda, Madsen

IFC has acquired North American rights to Terry Kinney’s “Diminished Capacity,” starring Matthew Broderick, Alan Alda and Virginia Madsen.

The comedy, which preemed last month at Sundance, is based on the novel of the same name by Sherwood Kiraly, who adapted it for the bigscreen with Doug Bost.

Story follows a newspaper editor (Broderick) demoted from politics to comics after a debilitating concussion. He links up with his uncle (Alda) and his high school sweetheart (Madsen) and goes on a road trip to sell what may be a valuable baseball card.

Kinney acted in the films “Save the Last Dance” and “Sleepers,” was a regular on HBO’s “Oz,” co-founded Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater and appeared on the Rialto in “The Grapes of Wrath.”

IFC’s current slate includes “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days,” Gus Van Sant’s “Paranoid Park” and Harmony Korine’s “Mister Lonely.”

Upcoming Plum projects include “Watching the Detectives,” “Bart Got a Room” and “Trucker.”
