Uma Thurman joins 'Eloise in Paris'

Thurman will play Nanny, caretaker of the precocious title character who was the central figure in the series written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hillary Knight.
Production will begin lensing in June in London, Paris and New York.
Charles Shyer is directing for Handmade Films, and he wrote the script with his daughter Hallie Meyers-Shyer and Larry Spencer (Daily Variety, June 26). Handmade hopes to hatch a film series from the Eloise books and has already begun developing the follow-up, "Eloise Goes to Hollywood."
Pic will be produced by Handmade's Patrick Meehan, Thomas D. Adelman and Ron Rotholz; Shyer exec produces. Worldwide sales will be handled by Handmade Films Intl., and the film is being offered at the European Film Market in Berlin.
Thurman just completed production on "The Accidental Husband."
Shyer, who is now searching for a young actress to play the title character, adapted the Nanny role with Thurman in mind.
