Carl Vogel leaves Dish Network

Executive will remain vice chairman

Carl Vogel has ankled as president of Dish Network, handing the title to Charlie Ergen, who'll also continue as chairman-CEO of the company.

Dish, the second largest satellite distributor in the U.S. behind DirecTV, said Vogel is leaving for "personal reasons." The company declined to elaborate but said Vogel will remain vice chairman of Dish Network and its sibling EchoStar, overseeing such divisions as corporate development, programming and business and commercial services.

To help Ergen in his added role, Dish has promoted Eric Carlson to exec VP of operations and Tom Stingley to exec VP of sales and distribution. Carlson reports to Ergen and Stingley reports to Jim DeFranco, co-founder and exec VP of Dish.

DeFranco reports to Ergen, as do Stanton Dodge, exec VP and general counsel; Bernie Han, exec VP and chief financial officer; and Stephen Wood, exec VP and chief human resources officer.

Based in Englewood, Colo., Dish sells hundreds of video and audio channels to 13.7 million satellite TV customers throughout the country.
