'Delta' banks Golden Reel awards

Gigor's 'Investigator' picks up four trophies

MOSCOW -- Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczo took the new Golden Reel main award for his film "Delta" at the Feb. 5 closing of the 39th Hungarian film week in Budapest.

Tuesday's win for Mundruczo, known for making high arthouse fare that is not to everybody's taste, is the first for "Delta" -- which also took kudos for original score.

International guests at this year's film week struggled to find films to commend among the 18 in the feature competition; "Delta" was also their pick for the annual Gene Moskowitz prize, given by foreign guests and critics.

Attila Gigor thriller "The Investigator" picked up four awards, for genre, actor (Zsolt Anger), screenplay and editor.

Actress prize went to Agi Gubik for her role in Attila Till's thirtysomething crisis drama "Panic."

Director went to Elemer Ragalyi's "Without Mercy (In Memory of PD)," about a man wrongly convicted of murder.

Benedek Fliegauf's arty and dialogue-free "Milky Way" shared the cinematography nod with Szabolcs Tolnai's "Hourglass."

"Milky Way" also took sound kudos and earned a special jury prize for Fliegauf.

The documentary award went to "Last Bus Stop," about people living in a border village, directed by Zsuzsa Boszormenyi and Salminen Kai.

Nods also went to "The Adventurers," directed by Bela Paczolay; producer Danas Szakaras for "Without Mercy (In memory of PD)" and Budapest 1956 uprising tale "The Sun Street Boys," directed by Gyorgy Szomjas.
