Duo set up script competition
Polish Film Institute, Mosfilm set up contest
A $20,000 award will be granted to the best script involving post-1991 relations between Polish and Russian characters.
Polish Film Institute director Agnieszka Odorowicz said, "Our countries used to co-produce a lot of films, but after the fall of the USSR the co-operation suddenly stopped. We would like to jump-start it again with this competition."
Both institutions agreed to co-finance the production of the film based on the winning script. Once production starts, the winner will receive an additional fee of $40,000.
"Since we cannot foresee what kind of script will be awarded and what scope of production would be involved, we are not able to guarantee complete financing by our institutions. However, we do assume the responsibility of searching for additional finances if ours prove insufficient," Odorowicz said.
The competition ends Sept. 30.
