Los Angeles-born Haynes will be in Sarajevo to present a retrospective of his renowned, and often controversial and provocative films.
After serving his apprenticeship on a range of short films, including “Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story,” Haynes won the Sundance festival’s grand prize in 1991 for his first feature “Poison,” which also picked up a Berlinale Teddy award.
Haynes rapidly gained recognition for films that include “Dottie Gets Spanked,” “Velvet Goldmine” and “Far From Heaven.”
His latest film, Bob Dylan biopic “I’m Not There,” picked up a special jury award last summer at the Venice film festival. The film’s Cate Blanchett is among the nominees for best supporting actress in this year’s Academy Awards.
During the Sarejevo Film Festival, which runs Aug. 15-23, Haynes will meet guests and the public during regular Q&A sessions following screenings of his films, and will given one keynote “public interview,” the festival said Tuesday.
