'Peppa' hits Nickelodeon's Noggin

British animated show to air on preschool network

"Peppa Pig," the hit British animated preschool show, is crossing the Atlantic to air on Noggin, Nickelodeon's preschool network.

Entertainment One, which owns global rights to "Peppa Pig," has sold U.S. broadcast rights to the first 52 episodes, plus an option on all future series and one-off specials.

"Peppa Pig" first aired in the U.K. four years ago on terrestrial web Five and Nick Jr. It has since been sold to 50 broadcasters worldwide and translated into 25 languages.

In the U.K. alone, the "Peppa Pig" brand generates $50 million a year in merchandising and DVD sales.

Entertainment One, which is Canada's largest home entertainment distributor, floated on London's Alternative Investment Market last March.

Since then, it has expanded rapidly into international theatrical, video and TV distribution, through the acquisition of Contender Entertainment in the U.K. (which owned "Peppa Pig"), RCV in Benelux and Seville Pictures in Canada. It also owns U.S. indie record label Koch Entertainment.
