Zorro is set to swashbuckle his way through a UK tour of a new tuner about the Latin swordsman, with the aim of leaving a mark on the West End.
Produced by John Gertz and Adam Kenwright and presented by Chilean novelist Isabel Allende -- who wrote a 2005 novel about the pulp hero -- "Zorro" will have music by flamenco-pop band Gipsy Kings, who provide both pre-existing hits ("Bambeleo," "Baila Me") and new tunes for the production.
Matt Rawle, who played Che in the recent West End revival of "Evita," toplines a cast that includes Adam Cooper and Aimie Atkinson.
Christopher Renshaw ("The King and I," "We Will Rock You") directs the tuner, with book by Stephen Clark ("Martin Guerre") and score co-composed by John Cameron. Flamenco dancer Rafael Amargo choreographs.
Production begins a UK tour in Eastbourne March 4, with an official opening set for March 13 in Woking and further stops planned for Manchester and Glasgow, among other cities.
No dates for a West End run have been set.
