HOLLYWOOD -- Eva Longoria played both ghost and host Tuesday at the L.A. premiere of New Line's "Over Her Dead Body."

After the Cinerama Dome screening, Longoria, who portrays Paul Rudd's deceased fiancee in the pic, invited guests to a private after-party at her new Hollywood restaurant, Beso.

As for the film's Friday release, New Line head of marketing Chris Carlisle said, "We thought it would make a really good counterprogramming move on the Super Bowl. It's primarily a female audience."

Carlisle also pointed out that the writers strike prevented the studio from airing spots during Longoria's "Desperate Housewives" show as they'd wanted to as part of the pic's promotional strategy.

"Fortunately, we were able to get an ad in on the last original episode of the show, but obviously, the strike has impacted us all."
