Bluegrass artist Don Watkins dies

Guitarist was patriarch of The Watkins Family

Don Watkins, patriarch of the bluegrass music group The Watkins Family, died Jan. 26, following a heart attack during a performance in Dobson, N.C. He was 66.

Watkins, a guitarist, and his wife Judy began performing in the late 1970s. The family bluegrass act, based in Eastanollee, Ga., included their son Todd and daughters Lorie and Shanon. Since 1982, they have performed across the U.S. and Canada.

The group made numerous albums. Their most popular song, "Power of the Holy Ghost," made it to the top five in the bluegrass music charts.
