Hunan TV calls off annual show
Among those scheduled to appear were Hong Kong multihyphenate Nicholas Tse, Taiwan warbler Fei Yu-Ching, "Super Girl" champion Li Yuchun and actor Wang Baoqiang. State media reported that Hunan Television had spent several million yuan in preparation for the event.
Hunan TV is China's third biggest broadcaster after state broadcaster CCTV and the Shanghai Media Group. It made its reputation with the success of the "American Idol"-inspired "Super Girl."
So far, the bad weather has affected nearly 80 million people in China.
More than 200 million migrant workers travel from the cities to their homes in the countryside to be with their families to celebrate Lunar New Year, China's most important annual holiday, which falls on Feb. 7 this year.
China's most watched TV show is CCTV's New Year's gala, which will air on Feb. 6. It is produced in Beijing, which has been largely unaffected by the bad weather.
