Rotterdam trio have M-Appeal

First up is "Tale 52" by Greek helmer Alexis Alexiou, which shows the shifting memory of a romantic liaison. This debut pic takes its world bow at the fest and is a contender for the Tiger awards.
"This is the kind of new cinema we are looking for," explained M-Appeal topper Maren Kroymann, formerly with MDC International. "It's an edgy, arthouse film but it is very cinematographic. It has great potential."
M-Appeal's second buy is "Tricks," sophomore pic by Polish helmer Andrzej Jakimowski, which is screening in the fest's Time & Tide section. It tells of a brother and sister in search of their father in smalltown Poland. "Tricks" got a nod from Europa Cinemas in Venice last year as the best European film.
The third acquisition is "The Muse" by Ben Van Lieshout, playing to industry only in the fest's Dutch Treats strand.
In other Rotterdam business, Insomnia World Sales took world rights to "Gitmek" (aka "My Marlon and Brando") following its world preem at the fest.
This debut feature from Turkish helmer Huseyin Karabey concerns a Turkish actress who falls in love with a Kurdish actor while on location. She returns to Istanbul and he returns to the north of Iraq, but their relationship continues long distance, overshadowed by the impending U.S. invasion.
Pic had development help from the fest's Hubert Bals Fund, and was selected in 2006 for its CineMart.
Meanwhile Dutch distribution rights for the opening film, "Lamb of God" by Luca Cedron, have been taken by Cinemien.
