HOLLYWOOD -- NBC Universal's Spanish-language web Telemundo has settled a four-year-old federal lawsuit filed by Mexican media conglom Televisa in Miami for an undisclosed amount.
Suit alleged that Telemundo "tortuously interfered" with Televisa's contract with telenovela thesp Mauricio Islas in 2004.
Telemundo spent close to $1 million to extract Islas from his contract so he could star in its sudser "Prisionera" (Prisoner).
Televisa filed an injunction in the U.S. against Telemundo that year, claiming that Telemundo negotiated with Islas without Televisa's approval.
A Miami court rejected the injunction and allowed Islas to work on the soap, which bowed in March 2004.
Separately, Televisa filed a breach-of-contract suit against Islas in Mexico City, which is still pending.
Move follows an out-of-court settlement in December between Telemundo and No. 2 Mexican web TV Azteca.
TV Azteca claimed that Telemundo, which has spent four years ramping up its original productions, was poaching its talent.
One of the suits also alleged Telemundo was copying TV Azteca's hit reality show "La Academia."
