'Xanadu' comes to La Jolla Playhouse

Musical to open Nov. 11

New York is going to the La Jolla Playhouse this year: Broadway's movie tuner "Xanadu" will open at the theater on Nov. 11, while Gothamite Charles Busch ("Die Mommie Die," "The Tale of the Allergist's Wife") will premiere his new comedy "The Third Story" on Sept. 16.

The new season will kick off April 8 with "33 Variations," written and directed by Tony winner Moises Kaufman. It premiered at Arena Stage in D.C. last year. Also on the slate are Obie winner Charlayne Woodard's new one-woman show "The Night Watcher" and "Tobacco Road," a revival of Jack Kirkland's long-running adaptation of Erskine Caldwell's 1932 novel about Georgia sharecroppers.
