Striking writers pen short plays
Playlets will benefit film and TV fund

The profits from the playlets, under the umbrella title "TV Takes the Stage," will be funneled to the Motion Picture and TV Fund to help non-writers who have suffered since the strike began on Nov. 5. The event takes place at the Macha Theater in West Hollywood from Jan. 31 through Feb. 3, and talks are under way to bring the performance to New York. The tickets cost between $20 and $30 each.
The three main organizers of "TV Takes the Stage" are Ed Zuckerman ("Law & Order") and Aaron Tracy and Meredith Philpott (CW's short-lived "Runaway").
Bonnie Somerville ("Cashmere Mafia"), Troy Evans ("ER"), Kari Matchett ("24," "ER"), Reid Scott ("My Boys"), Melissa Sagemiller ("Sleeper Cell") and Ben Feldman ("Cloverfield") will perform in the 16 plays, whose length ranges from eight minutes to 15 minutes.
"This event is a way for us to stay creative during the strike and help people who need it," said Tracy. He added that the content of the plays ranges from "the night Marie Antoinette and King Louis first shared a bed, to the chatroom entrapment of child predators."
Among the directors are Shaun Cassidy ("Cold Case"), Joe Nussbaum ("Sydney White") and Steven Oritt, who works on music videos.
Other writers are Diana Son ("Law & Order"), Eric Overmyer ("The Wire"), Warren Leight ("Law & Order"), Alexandra Cunningham ("Desperate Housewives") and Richard Kramer ("Thirtysomething").
