Mega TV takes 'Lunnis'

Spanish muppets head for U.S.

BARCELONA — Miami-based digital satellite channel Mega TV has acquired 120 half-hours of Spanish muppet show “Los Lunnis” for nationwide U.S. broadcast.

Mega TV, a South Florida TV station owned by radio group Spanish Broadcasting System, is carried on DirecTV Mas, DirecTV’s Spanish-language channel package.

"Lunnis" is the flagship inhouse children’s production of Spanish pubcaster TVE. Show features muppet sketches, appearances and acts by recording artists, educational filers and specials.

"Lunnis" is TVE's biggest money-spinning export, and has sold north of one million CDs in Spain.

“The series was created to have a long shelf-life, easily incorporating contemporary social issues such as immigration,” said Eladio Jareno director of TVE’s children programming.

Via a broadcast license deal with Mexican TV giant Televisa, “Lunnis” has aired in Venezuela, Brazil, Panama and Peru, and in Europe on Italy's RAI and Portuguese pubcaster RTP.

“Lunnis” will air from March on Mega TV.
