Lolas pass on Schweiger film

'Keinohrhasen' not considered for award

By ED MEZA

BERLIN -- Multihyphenate Til Schweiger has quit the German Film Academy in protest after his box office hit "Keinohrhasen" wasn't considered for a German Film Award.

The Academy claims the film's producers did not register in time, despite a reminder, but that the pic would be eligible to take part in the 2009 awards, also called the Lolas "if the producers or the distributor register the film."

The Warner Bros. release is one of the most successful German pics of the past year with a running cume of some $30 million. Schweiger directed, produced and stars in the film.

Schweiger's film has already generated controversy after angry parents complained to German authorities that the film's classification, which allows children as young as six to see the pic, was inappropriate as it contains explicit sex scenes and salacious dialogue.
