ESPN 'Kicking It' with Colin Farrell

Actor-narrated soccer doc acquired by network

ESPN has acquired the Colin Farrell-narrated soccer documentary "Kicking It" as part of a broader deal for the film's distribution. The announcement came Saturday afternoon, hours before the film's Sundance premiere.

The network will retain exclusive worldwide TV rights and execute the film's digital distribution. ESPN will work with the filmmakers to secure theatrical, DVD and other distribution.

Produced by Ted Leonsis ("Nanking") and directed by Susan Koch ("Mario's Story"), "Kicking It" chronicles the personal struggles and triumphs of seven soccer players from six countries who participate in the 4th annual Homeless World Cup.

Film premieres Saturday night as part of the American Spectrum's Documentary Spotlight.

In a statement, Keith Clinkscales, ESPN senior vice president, content development and enterprises, said "Kicking It" "is an inspirational guide and a fitting choice for ESPN."
