HOLLYWOOD -- After months of hype and endless speculation, the veil of secrecy shrouding Paramount's mystery monster movie was finally lifted at the premiere of "Cloverfield" on Jan. 16.

"It's nice to finally be able to talk about it and not have to worry about them taking my wife and kid for violating something," joked thesp Michael Stahl-David, who plays the film's protagonist.

When making the pic, filmmakers say Paramount embraced the idea of casting unknowns. "We were making this garage-band, tentpole monster movie and the studio was behind it the whole way," said director Matt Reeves.

"We've been very lucky, in TV especially, to work with actors that are simply right for the part and not necessarily well known," said producer J.J. Abrams. "It's especially important, because it's supposed to be found video, so having people who are not necessarily recognizable helps sell that reality a little bit more."
