Director of acquisitions moves to VP position
Stambler was key in picking up Alex Gibney's torture doc "Taxi to the Dark Side" and the Helen Hunt pic "Then She Found Me," skedded to bow in May.
ThinkFilm released 25 films in 2007, including helmer Sidney Lumet's "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead."
"I joined the company at a really exciting time because there's new ownership and there's been a pretty consistent period of growth," Stambler said. "We haven't overhauled our philosophy, we're doing more of what we do very well, like documentaries."
Stambler said next year's slate will include "Blue Valentine," directed by Derek Cianfrance with co-prod'rs Hunting Lane and Silverwood Films, and an ongoing first-look deal with Christine Vachon's Killer Films, with whom they'll also share production and financing duties on a per-project basis.
Going into Sundance, Stambler said ThinkFilm is actively looking to acquire: "If there's something we fall in love with, we'll be very aggressive to make it ours.
