LONDON — Metrodome has picked up all U.K. rights to Chinese features “Assembly” and “The Banquet,” both helmed by Xiaogang Feng (“Big Shot’s Funeral.”)
“Assembly,” set during the Huaihai Campaign of the 1948 Chinese civil war, has grossed some $30 million at the Chinese box office.
“The Banquet” is a loose adaptation of “Hamlet” set in the 10th century and starring Zhang Ziyi (“Memoirs of a Geisha”; “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”).
Metrodome picked up the two titles from Huayi Bros. Pictures, China’s biggest private-sector film company.
Metrodome plans to release “Assembly” theatrically this spring, with “The Banquet” to follow later in the year.
