Afghan authorities have banned the import and release of locally set pic “The Kite Runner” because it contains implicit scenes of the rape of a boy plus scenes of ethnic conflict.

“On the basis of the instruction of the information and culture ministry, the ‘Kite Runner’ film’s depiction and import has been banned,” Latif Ahmadi, the head of state-run Afghan Film told Reuters agency.

The Marc Forster-helmed adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s bestselling novel was released last year in North America only after Paramount Vantage went to exceptional lengths to protect its four young Afghan actors, moving them to Dubai.
