WGA, MRC reach interim agreement

The WGA and MRC made the announcement Monday with the writers strike starting its 11th week.
MRC's underwriting a slate of features featuring talent such as Sacha Baron Cohen and Cameron Diaz and directors Robert Rodriguez, Ricky Gervais, Richard Kelly, Walter Salles, Bennett Miller and Todd Field (Daily Variety, Sept. 4). MRC is expected to make a comparable foray into TV production and is engaged in the creation of digital content through pacts with thesp Raven-Symone and "Family Guy" creator-exec producer Seth MacFarlane.
"This is an exciting agreement that will open up opportunities for writers, especially in New Media," said Patric M. Verrone, president of the WGA West and Michael Winship, president of the WGA East. "We know that Guild members will be eager to be a part of the MRC creative team."
MRC co-CEO's Asif Satchu and Modi Wiczyk credited MacFarlane with helping make the deal.
Terms of the agreement are similar to the Worldwide Pants and UA deals.
