Pic is centered around a child fathered out-of-wedlock by fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.
Named Benito like his father and born before Mussolini came to power, the boy was kept hidden by the dictator, along with his mother beautician Ida Dalser, in asylums where both died before Mussolini’s execution in 1945.
“Vincere,” which means “to win” and takes its title from that of a popular fascist-era song, is set to start shooting in April in Northern Italian locations, including Venice. Casting is still being decided.
Celluloid is co-producing the pic, which Rome indie shingle Offside is producing in association with RAI Cinema. RAI Cinema’s 01 Distribuzione will release “Vincere” in Italy.
Celluloid Dreams has a longstanding rapport with Bellocchio, having handled international sales on his drama “Good Morning, Night,” a fictional depiction of the kidnapping and murder in 1978 of Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro by Red Brigades terrorists.
