Alphabet has greenlit a new edition of its femme-focused "Bachelor" spinoff, in which a female contestant attempts to find true love by dating a number of men. New "Bachelorette" is being prepped for a possible summer debut, with Mike Fleiss once again exec producing the series he created.
Warner Horizon Television is producing via Fleiss' Next Entertainment.
"The Bachelorette" bowed in 2003 and featured season-one "Bachelor" contestant Trista Rehn (who ultimately married firefighter Ryan Sutter and lived happily ever after). ABC aired a couple more editions of "Bachelorette" but has kept the franchise on ice since 2005.
In the interim, other nets have continued to rip off the "Bachelor"/"Bachelorette" formula. Most recently, MTV found a ratings hit with "A Shot at Love," a "Bachelorette"-type skein in which star Tila Tequila dated both men and women.
ABC is keeping a lid on the creative details on the new "Bachelorette." The Alphabet is prepping a new season of "The Bachelor" for March.
