Phil Ramone will serve as the host, narrator and co-producer of the eight-part "Recording: The History of Recorded Music." Series will focus on the relationship between technology and music and their effect on culture.
The series will be accompanied by a traveling museum exhibition on the history of music and technology and a database featuring more than 2,000 songs, 500 hours of archival video, 20,000 still photographs and 160 interviews by artists, composers, executives, historians and technologists. Producers are also preparing a companion book, DVD and digital soundtrack series.
Talks have begun with labels to release a branded "best of" American music series. Producers expect the series to be completed in early 2009 and available for distribution later by early 2010.
Executive producers are Larry Rosen, Lee Rosenberg and Ramsey Lewis.
