Actor, director Kathryn Ish dies at 71

Co-founder of improv group The Committee

Actress and director Kathryn Ish died of cancer Dec. 31 in Santa Barbara, Calif. She was 71.

Ish was a founding member of the political satire improvisational group The Committee. Known for her inventive characters, Ish performed with The Committee Theater in the 1960s and '70s. Her late husband, actor Richard Stahl, who died in 2006, also performed with The Committee.

Ish appeared on more than 100 movies and television shows, including "The American President," "WKRP in Cincinnati" and "Laverne and Shirley." Her voiceovers were heard in more than 75 films and TV shows.

More recently, she taught singing and acting at Santa Barbara City College.

She is survived by a daughter and a son.
