Bertolucci to get Hollywood star

Italian director joins Walk of Fame

ROME — Helmer Bernardo Bertolucci will receive a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, joining a highly select set of Italian artists — including Rudolf Valentino, Anna Magnani, Arturo Toscanini, Enrico Caruso and Sophia Loren — honored with this nod.

Bertolucci’s star will be unveiled on February 19 in front of Mann’s Chinese Theater concurrently with the Los Angeles Italia pre-Oscars Italian cinema showcase, which will run Feb. 17-23.

Italy’s venerable helmer with close ties to Hollywood will also be tributed with a retro, including his rarely seen, 1968 docu “La via del petrolio,” about the history and crucial importance of petroleum, and a freshly restored print of acclaimed 1970 drama “The Spider’s Stratagem” (La strategia del ragno).

Bertolucci, 67, whose “The Last Emperor” won nine Oscars in 1987, was recently celebrated with a Golden Lion career achievement prize during the latest Venice Film festival.
