Launched in 2007, CoFesta included 18 events over 40 days, culminating with the Tokyo Film Festival and Tiffcom film market in late October.
The aim was to present the entire array of Japanese content, including pics, toons, music, TV shows and games, under one banner for foreign buyers and producers.
The budget, nearly the same as for 2007, reflects the ministry's intention to maintain CoFesta on the same splashy scale as in its inaugural year.
There will be some changes: Some CoFesta events, including the Tokyo Game Show, will move from late September to mid-October to heighten CoFesta's profile and encourage visitors to make it their one-stop shop for Japanese content.
In related news, the ministry has appropriated $14 million to fight piracy, up from $13.4 million in 2007.
