The oldest tune on this year's list is 1905's "Give My Regards to Broadway," by Billy Murray; the youngest is "Thriller," released in 1982. Sixteen of the new entries are from the classical field.
The Broadway cast album of "Company," the soundtracks from "Cabaret" and "The Harder They Come," Prince's double album "1999," Little Walter's landmark blues instrumental "Juke," "Velvet Underground & Nico" and the Mississippi Sheiks' "Sittin on Top of the World" are part of this year's class.
Started in 1973, the list now includes 798 titles.
