Spain invests in export drive

Minister to speak at Madrid event

MADRID — The Spanish Institute for Trade (ICEX) will invest Euros 20 million ($28.8 million) over 2007-09 to aid the export of Spain’s film, TV, music, publishing and education industries.

It is drawing up a new roadmap, a “Support Plan for the Internationalization of Spanish Culture Industries,” geared to aiding export drives in a digital and globalized world.

The plan’s guidelines for new state aid will be unveiled at a conference, “Learning to Export: Cultural Content for the World,” which will take place Jan.17 in Madrid.

The event will open with a keynote speech from Spanish minister for industry, tourism and trade Joan Clos. Moderators and speakers will include Philippe Kern, the Brussels-based general manager of Kea European Affairs, RTVE prexy Luis Fernandez, Daniel Ecija, one of Spain’s top TV producers, Emiliano Martinez, prexy of the Santillana publishing group, and Fabia Buenaventura, general manager of Spanish producers’ assn. Fapae.

The three-year plan will target prime markets such as the U.S., Canada, Germany, France, the U.K., Italy, Mexico, Japan and China.
