‘Beowulf’ gets 3-D boost in U.K.

Up to end of Dec. 13, the Ray Winstone and Angelina Jolie starrer has banked $9.2 million via traditional print and $4.5 million (including Imax) via 3-D.
Imax perf has been boffo in Blighty with “Beowulf” banking more at London’s BFI Imax cinema than at any other Imax site in the world.
Up to Dec. 12, pic has grossed $751,598 at the cinema in Waterloo.
“Beowulf” got off to monster opening weekend, with 11 of first 12 shows selling out, according to the BFI. In total, 55 of first 85 shows have been sellouts.
“Several media reviews of ‘Beowulf’ mentioned that the best way to see it was in IMAX 3-D, which gave us an initial boost, then once we opened and customers could see it for themselves, word of mouth has helped drive these incredible figures,” commented Dennis Laws, general and technical manager of the BFI Imax.
Boosted by strong advance bookings, “Beowulf” will play at the Imax site until Jan. 24.
