Premiering Feb. 8, "My Winnipeg" is an homage to Maddin's native city, an autobiographical fairytale that combines documentary footage with reenactments, family photos and excerpts from old films.
Also having its international premiere is Rossellini's "Green Porno," three one-minute shorts that explore the mating behavior of insects. Rossellini directed and co-produced the shorts for mobile phones and mobile video players. "Green Porno" will screen before "My Winnipeg" as well as part of the Forum Expanded contemporary art section.
Maddin will narrate the commentary for "My Winnipeg" live onstage. It's not the first time Maddin and Rossellini have presented their work jointly in Berlin. In 2006, the fest screened their joint documentary film short "My Dad Is 100 Years Old," which Rossellini wrote as a tribute to her father, Roberto Rossellini, and Maddin directed.
At this year's Berlinale Forum, the two presented a live staging of Maddin's film "Brand Upon the Brain" at the Deutsche Oper.
