'Speech & Debate' extends stay

Play gets eight-week extension

The inaugural offering of the Roundabout Underground initiative, “Speech & Debate,” will stick around two months longer than expected, with an eight-week extension that puts the closing date at Feb. 24.

Play by Stephen Karam, which opened Oct. 29 to strong reviews, already had extended its run by two weeks until the end of the year, selling out in the Roundabout’s new 62-seat black box theater.

Show is the first production of Roundabout Underground, a program curated by producer Robyn Goodman (“Avenue Q”) to showcase new plays and developing artists.

Plot of “Speech” follows three high school students brought together by a local scandal. Jason Moore (“Avenue Q”) directs a cast that includes Susan Blackwell (“[title of show]”), Gideon Glick (“Spring Awakening”), Jason Fuchs and Sarah Steele.
