Imeem beams right at Universal
Networking site uploads UMG's services
Warner Music, EMI and Sony BMG have already signed agreements with Imeem, which offers users streamed audio and video content free of charge, with payments to the record companies generated by advertising.
Imeem claims to have more than 19 million users, and the deal with UMG means it will be able to access content from the world's biggest music group, whose artists include Kanye West, Amy Winehouse, Fall Out Boy, 50 Cent, Black Eyed Peas and the Killers.
"Imeem has developed an innovative way to make our artists' music a central part of the social-networking experience," UMG chairman-CEO Doug Morris said in a statement.
Imeem's business model allows artists, labels, studios and media companies to make their music and video freely available for interactive streaming to the Imeem community while taking a share of the ad revenue.
