Gov't aims to make Broadband Internet accessible to all citizens whether at home or on the move. It will set up free Wi-Fi at some 350 locations including libraries, job centres, key cultural and recreation centers, community halls, gov't offices and large parks. Gov't estimates that Hong Hong will have over 8,000 wireless hotspots – free and paid for – by mid 2009.
PCCW, already a major supplier of Broadband and wireless Internet, is stepping up the level of its own services. Last month it announced two new Broadband to the home packages with speeds of 100 Megabytes per second and 1,000 Mbps – capable of handling extremely heavy data usage including high definition television.
