"We have consolidated functions and operations, resulting in job impact," said J.B. Perrette in a statement. Perrette is president of distribution for NBC U, who is serving as "integration leader" in absorbing Oxygen into the NBC U fold.
NBC U declined to give names of those being let go, but did say they'll stay on until the end of the year. It's understood that the layoffs cut across all departments of Oxygen and include people at the vice-president level.
In the statement, Perrette said NBC U will offer some of the severed workers "opportunities within NBC U where available." Those who leave will not only be paid until the end of the year, he said, but get "enhanced severance packages and outplacement services."
NBC U ponied up $925 million for Oxygen Media in early October to help the NBC network target women viewers by linking Oxygen through cross promotion with such other in-house properties as Bravo, the iVillage Web site and the "Today" show.
